Code: REA-103 Book Study Group – If you want to lead READ

These sessions are designed to create a culture of sharing and professional dialogue, essential elements for school success. Leaders who read, discuss, and implement current educational research are more engaged and ready to take on the challenges in their school. But the reality is that we lead busy lives, making it difficult to find time for these valuable discussions. In every discussion, we will focus on how to infuse impact and practice with the book's message. We will discuss and review how each book enriches the influence of teachers' teaching and supports our primary mission of making a difference with each and every child, each and every day. 14th October 2016 – “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen Covey 23rd November 2016 – “Great by Choice” by Jim Collins 11th January 2017 – “Influence” by Robert Cialdini 22nd March 2017 – “Creativity Inc.” by Ed Catmul 5th April 2017 – “Leading Teams” by J.Richard Hackman 30th June 2017 – Focus to be confirmed

Code: REA-009 Towards Excellence Phase Two - South Central

Staff reflect on and debate the way they teach. They feel deeply involved in their own professional development. Leaders have created a climate in which teachers are motivated and trusted to take risks and innovate in ways that are right for their pupils.’ OfSTED Outstanding judgement, ‘Effectiveness of Leadership and Management’. Aim: Solidly good teachers do not automatically transition to outstanding over time. This programme intends to enthuse teachers and equip them with the skills and attitudes to be able to take life long ownership over their professional development, so that the quest for improvement becomes internalised and sustained independently of outside intervention. The programme seeks to equip teachers with the practical ideas and resources necessary to become outstanding practitioners, so schools can foster a self-sustaining, self-developing, and self-motivating workforce, who make a positive contribution to their school’s culture and ethos. Intention for the programme: • To develop participants’ ability to be life-long learners • To underline development with the most current research from education • To develop participants’ coaching skills • To roll the programme out over two terms of development • To identify and develop the ‘bundle of behaviours’ that indicates the difference between outstanding and good practitioners • To draw on securely research-evidenced feedback on what makes effective practice and CPD • To have a wider impact at school Structure for the Programme: The themes that are covered and participants are expected to work on in schools, drawn on research from IoE and the EEF, and have been designed by ETSA school leaders. Each session will require participants to try out new practices, and report back on the impact the following week. Halfway through the programme, participants decide on an area of practice to develop in school: they may do this in discussion with SLT. They carry out a piece of development similar to action research – but not requiring the paper trail, to ensure that the focus on improvement is solidly in practice: so they work differently not additionally. The focus of improvement involves working with two or three schools colleagues, to try out the innovation and build capacity in school. On completion of the programme, the participants share their findings of what impacts best on children’s learning, with all other programme delegates - school leaders are welcome to attend.
